California Fluff Cattery is a small hobby cattery located in Citrus Heights, Northern California. We have been happily raising top quality Russian Blue kittens since 2008. Our cats live indoors as part of our household, where they receive daily care, attention, and interaction from our family.

Before leaving our home, our kittens are properly weaned, litter box trained, and examined by a veterinarian. Every kitten is placed with a written health guarantee and a written adoption contract. Our Citrus Heights location makes California Fluff Cattery convenient for families throughout the Sacramento region and across Northern California. We are less than 20 minutes from Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, Rocklin, Auburn, and Orangevale. Davis, Vacaville, Fairfield, American Canyon, and Vallejo are approximately 35 to 55 minutes away.
We are about an hour and a half from Berkeley, Napa, Oakland, and San Francisco. San Jose and the surrounding metro area are approximately two hours away. Marin, Stockton, Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Livermore, Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, Tracy, Modesto, Saratoga, Los Gatos, and communities throughout the greater Bay Area are also approximately two hours away or less.
Families also visit us from Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz, Carmel, Redding, and Chico, which are approximately three hours away. Reno and Lake Tahoe are about an hour and a half away. Southern California locations, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Orange County, are approximately a six to eight hour drive from our cattery.

How Our Russian Blue Kittens Are Raised
Our cats live indoors at all times and are treated as members of the family. Russian Blues are naturally social companions, so daily attention, handling, play, and positive human interaction are central to our routine. Our children also play and interact with the kittens, helping them develop friendly, well adjusted temperaments.
Kittens generally go to their new homes at approximately 12 to 13 weeks of age, after they have been weaned, litter box trained, and examined by our veterinarian. Our purpose is not simply to offer Russian Blue kittens for sale; it is to prepare each kitten for a safe, loving, permanent home.
Litter Box Training Before Adoption
Litter box training begins as early as four weeks of age. We use Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Litter, a silica based litter, and Nature’s Miracle as an alternative when Dr. Elsey’s is unavailable. Young kittens begin with a short, uncovered litter box and later transition to an average sized covered box. Introducing both styles helps reduce litter box confusion after adoption.
We recommend purchasing a kitten/cat attract litter additive before bringing a kitten home. During the first two weeks, the kitten should remain in a comfortable bedroom where it can de stress, learn the location of its litter box, and gradually adjust to the new environment. After that initial period, the kitten can explore the rest of the home in stages while being regularly returned to the litter box. More preparation guidance is available in our New Kitten Checklist.
Weaning, Nutrition, and Early Development
We begin weaning our Russian Blue kittens at approximately four weeks old. During the first week, we use a special kitten glop formula. We then introduce canned Instinctive Choice food mixed with goat’s milk and vitamin powders. Life’s Abundance dry food is kept available so the kittens can smell, taste, and gradually become familiar with kibble throughout the weaning process.
By eight weeks old, the kittens are eating dry food daily and receive wet food mixed with dry food once or twice each day. NuVet Plus vitamin powder is introduced with their food and continues when they leave our care. We use NuVet Plus to support immune and growth development, and continued supplementation is connected to the extended health guarantee options described in our agreement.
Veterinary Care for Our Russian Blue Kittens
Our kittens receive two to three vaccinations before leaving our home. The feline distemper three way vaccine generally begins at six weeks and is repeated at nine weeks and again at twelve weeks. Kittens are dewormed for parasite and protozoa control, microchipped between nine and twelve weeks, and given their first veterinary health examination at approximately twelve weeks.
As responsible breeders, we believe we have a social and community responsibility not to contribute to pet overpopulation. Our kittens are spayed or neutered by twelve weeks of age and leave us at approximately thirteen weeks. Every kitten receives the appropriate veterinary preparation before joining its new family. Our Russian Blue Kitten Screening and Adoption Process
Potential clients are screened before we accept a deposit or place a kitten. At California Fluff Cattery, screening helps us understand the home environment and make an appropriate match between each kitten and family. We ask about preferred gender and temperament, the household’s daily routine, cat care experience, and how soon the family is prepared to welcome a kitten. We also explain what is included with each kitten.
Interested clients complete our online kitten questionnaire, which asks important questions about the home, lifestyle, and previous pet care experience. We encourage every prospective family to read our breed information and frequently asked questions. A Russian Blue can be a long term companion, and applicants should be prepared for the full responsibility of lifelong care.
California Fluff Cattery reserves the right to refuse a sale or service at any time, including when a kitten has been reserved with a deposit. Kittens remain the property of California Fluff Cattery until they have been paid for in full and have left our home. Once screening is complete, deposit instructions are discussed by phone and email. Depending on availability and readiness, a client may reserve a currently available kitten or join the waiting list. Russian Blue Kitten Waiting List
After learning what a family is looking for, including gender and temperament, we try to match that family with a currently available kitten. When the right kitten is not yet available, or when the client is not immediately ready, the client may be added to our Russian Blue kitten waiting list.
Waiting list clients are organized according to their selection preferences. When a kitten matches a client’s preferences and becomes available based on that client’s position, we offer the kitten to them. A client remains on the list until a suitable kitten is available unless matching kittens are repeatedly offered and refused, at which point our deposit policies apply.
Paid deposits are generally non refundable, with limited exceptions. Anyone placing a deposit should therefore be fully committed to adopting from California Fluff Cattery and should not continue looking for a kitten elsewhere. Written Health Guarantees
Raising healthy, happy Russian Blue kittens is extremely important to us. Every kitten is handled with care and affection and receives daily interaction intended to support a confident, well adjusted temperament.
Our initial 72 hour health guarantee requires the buyer to take the kitten to a licensed veterinarian of the buyer’s choice within the first 72 hours after adoption. If that veterinarian identifies a genetic, congenital, or hereditary defect during this period, the remedies described in the written agreement apply. Veterinary and travel expenses are not included.
After the first 72 hours, we provide a one year limited guarantee. Extended two, three, or four year options cover hereditary, congenital, and genetic defects and correspond with keeping the kitten on the NuVet Plus vitamin program for the selected term. If a kitten dies from a covered defect during the guarantee period, the replacement terms in the written agreement apply.
Unless California Fluff Cattery makes an exception, monetary refunds and reimbursement of veterinary, professional, or travel expenses are not provided after the initial terms described above. All kittens are sold flea free. Families should read the complete written health agreement carefully so they understand the coverage, responsibilities, limits, and conditions.
Pickup and Hand Delivery
We prefer local placements, but we also work with qualified clients outside the immediate area and in other states when they are willing to travel to us to collect their kitten. For families unable to pick up in Citrus Heights, hand delivery may be available.
Depending on the destination, we may drive or fly with the kitten, or arrange for a hand delivery associate to deliver on our behalf. A kitten may be driven directly to a home, flown in the cabin within the United States or Canada, delivered to the buyer’s door, or met at the destination airport. Delivery availability depends on the location and circumstances.
